Luke Culling

Head of Engagement

Status

Married to the wonderful Tiffany, with two young children Noah Beau Culling who is 5 and Harper Rae Culling who has recently turned 1.

Career Highlight

One? There have been many. Having been with 3aaa for coming up to 4 years, I have been part of the company through Ofsted (Outstanding if you didn’t know) and furthermore the incredible growth over the last 3 and a half years.

The one thing that stands out is the recent Levy Conference at the London Stadium where I was asked (albeit last minute) to talk to delegates about our recruitment process and specifically recruitment for our levy clients.

Outside of 3aaa, my career highlight would be the 6 Peak Challenge I took part in with 10 young people aged 12-16 who had all in some way had their lives affected by Cancer. As a group the week-long event culminated in climbing Snowdon, following 3 days, 5 peaks and many sleepless nights in a tent!!!

Other Roles

Being a Husband and Father. I have the unconditional support of my beautiful wife and two wonderful children.

Ambition

To continue increasing the awareness of the amazing job 3aaa does up and down the country. This can’t be achieved by an individual, but by us all as a collective! When Careers Advisor’s (although somewhat thin on the ground these days) are looking for an Apprenticeship Provider, I want 3aaa to be the 1st organisation they think of.

Motto

Be the best possible version of you.

About My Role at 3aaa

I am Head of Engagement for 3aaa, a role I am extremely passionate about which allows me to support and lead on new strategies when it comes to finding THE best talent for the amazing employers we work with.

We have recently implemented a new Interview and information, advice and guidance (IAG) process as well as the Apprentice Induction which has been very well received nationwide.

These processes, like many others aren’t set in stone. I am a great believer in working SMART. If something isn’t fit for purpose, approach it, adapt it and make it better than it was before with the help of other.

Having started at 3aaa in August 2014, I have seen amazing growth, so standardisation is key in every aspect. We have an incredible Apprentice Engagement Team, who are passionate about the young people we work with. I feel lucky to head up that part of this organisation as it is what I am most passionate about.

I feel my role adds value to our clients, because we pride ourselves on working with the best applicants who are determined to succeed through our Apprenticeships. Our recruitment process, which is free of charge, allows us the chance to align young people with employers up and down the country.

At local academies (of which we have 38 across the UK) we have passionate teams who support this vision. I am lucky enough to have been in that position and helped change the lives of hundreds of young people during my time at 3aaa and want to continue doing that for the next 4 years – and beyond if you’ll have me!

My Background Prior to 3aaa And How My Role Adds Value to Our Partnering Clients

Prior to joining 3aaa, I worked with a wide range of Young People, most recently at Leyton Orient, where I managed their NCS Programme for 2 years, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Delivering measured and local projects to help integrate young people back into their local communities and to understand what goes on there. I am incredibly proud to say we won a National Award for our community projects.

Before that I spent 4 amazing years working for Essex County Council as a Positive Activities for Young People Keyworker. This job was, by far and away, the most rewarding.

Working with young people who had been challenged by education, social and school exclusion. Supporting and mentoring them with diversionary activities in their spare time to prevent anti-social behaviour or repeat offending and to support and reintroduce them back into mainstream education.

Challenging? Yes. Rewarding? Yes. Hard Work? Oh Yes.

But the job satisfaction made it all worthwhile!

My Interests Outside of Work?

I love spending time with my family, they are the most important people in my life. I have a love of sport and will literally watch anything. My biggest passions are Golf (could have and should have been a Pro) and Football.

I do love my food (any restaurant recommendations please email me) and music, specifically Ed Sheeran. There’s nothing I love more than watching my two amazing children dance around the living room to a range of different tunes!
