On Monday 9th October, Delaware North launched their new ‘NEXT Academy’ with an Academy Challenge, aimed at finding candidate’s suitability for enrolment into the Academy.

The 2-day challenge, inspired by ‘The Apprentice’ saw the chosen candidates attend the Emirates Stadium in London, competing in teams to complete various challenges across the city. All chosen candidates were identified through the Delaware North succession planning process as they expressed a firm interest in progressing their careers with the organisation and completing a Delaware North Leadership programme, delivered by 3aaa Apprenticeships.

The different challenges were completed over the 2 days, culminating in the ‘Serjeants at Arms’ discussing all candidate’s suitability for enrolment into the ‘NEXT Academy’. All candidates showed their leadership qualities throughout the challenges and completed them in an enthusiastic and measured manner.

The ‘NEXT Academy’ was introduced as a business initiative after years of planning by the Delaware North team to ensure that there is a clear talent and succession plan within the business, allowing employees to develop and prosper within the organisation and creating momentum and the vision to introduce this effectively. Delaware North and 3aaa Apprenticeships are currently working in partnership to ensure that this is achieved, creating a flexibility that ensures that the training programmes fit the needs of Delaware North and its talented workforce.

Alison Gray, Human Resources Director of Delaware North commented “The launch of the NEXT Academy is a very exciting moment in time for us as a business. Our industry continues to grow, offering enormous opportunities for people to have amazing careers, and yet we face a growing talent crisis. We see the Academy, partnering with 3aaa to deliver a suite of leadership programmes, as our way to invest in our people to help them bring their potential to life for individual and collective success.”

We are delighted that Alison will be speaking to all guests at our next Apprenticeship Levy Conference at the London Stadium on Wednesday 8th November 2017. She will be discussing Delaware North’s Apprenticeship Levy journey in more detail and the lessons that they have learnt along the way.

A full write up of the ‘NEXT Academy Challenge’ will be published over the coming weeks along with a video containing footage from the action-packed 2 days.
