Course Overview

Our Level 4 School Business Manager programme gives participants the chance to develop skills within key responsibilities such as leadership, finance and procurement. School Business Managers perform a unique role specific to schools and academies,with responsibilities that don’t exist outside of the sector.

Over the course of the Level 4 Apprenticeship, participants will develop an understanding of how to provide essential support to school leadership teams and this programme consolidates all of the key knowledge and skills required for implementing a schools financial and business decisions.

Modules

Module One

Leading Support Services in a School

Leading Support Services in a School aims to develop the delegates’ knowledge and skills relating to leadership and development in a school. The module covers the influence of educational regulatory bodies and Ofsted requirements and the implications these have for the workforce and planning in a school.

Module Two

Finance in a School

Looking at different accountancy practices, delegates will explore the importance of accurate recording and reporting of the school’s finances. Whilst understanding the school compliance issue, this module will help delegates to recognise business effective finance strategies and identify tools available to make informed school business decisions.

Module Three

Procurement in a School

Procurement in a school covers content relating to procurement strategy, managing the tendering process, and supporting contractor and supplier management. The unit explores procurement regulations and requirements and how to achieve value for money, including collaborative procurement.

Module Four

Infrastructure within Schools

This module covers the significance of physical facilities and digital processes in an educational setting. Delegates will explore a range of relevant legislation that schools must comply with, such as Health & Safety, Freedom of Information and Employment and Data Protection policies.

Module Five

School Governance and Risk

Delegates will look at practical knowledge of the supporting documentation governors need in order to carry out their role effectively. The module will cover the process of risk management and will enable delegates to comply with charitable status and education law. The unit also looks at the impact of, and how to implement, safeguarding policy in a school environment.

Module Six

Human Resources and Strategic Management

This module covers the complexities of teaching and support staff contracts, terms and conditions of employment and payroll. Delegates will look at HR policies and when and where to seek legal advice. The unit explores different methods and processes on managing and leading individuals and teams to achieve success.

Module Seven

Change and Project Management

This module covers the complexity of school business planning and organisation. Looking at managing processes either in-house or outsourced to ensure value for money for the school whilst supporting education delivery. The unit also covers change management where delegates will explore specific challenges faced by schools and how to make measurable work place impacts.

Module Eight

Marketing in Schools

This module includes how marketing can be used to underpin school funding and the impact that it can have. Delegates will explore a variety of marketing activities to promote their school including taking into account e-safety when updating both the secure and externally-facing areas of the website.

Learning & Assessment

Over the course of the 15 – 18 month Apprenticeship, participants will have face to face contact with industry experts through delivery workshops and coaching sessions and have access to a virtual learning environment.

During the sessions, Apprentices will be covering a range of modules that will be tailored towards their roles and responsibilities, learning about the concepts behind their tasks within the workplace and being able to develop themselves with key industry experience.
