Richard Gerver

Non-Executive Director

Status

I have just celebrated my silver wedding anniversary with the most tolerant woman in the world, Lynne. We met when we were training to be teachers and now she is a highly experienced Headteacher. We have two kids; Beth, our eldest has just started a teaching career, Andrew, our youngest, won’t be following us down that path, lovely though he is!

Career Highlight

Too many to mention; but hopefully the thread that links my career highlights is making a difference and nurturing the potential in others… That and meeting Barack Obama.

Ambition

To look back on my life and feel proud that I lived it!

Motto

Live, Learn, Laugh.

About your role at 3aaa

I am a Non-Executive Director with an overview on Quality and Standards and a passion for developing positive working climates and developing people. I was honoured from the minute I was invited to join the Board by Peter, Di and Derek and feel privileged to work with so many brilliant people, who work so hard to make a real difference to people’s lives. I passionately believe in the relentless pursuit of excellence and thoroughly enjoy working with an organisation that feel the same way.

Your Background Prior to 3aaa

I qualified as a teacher at The University of Derby in 1992 and worked as a teacher until 2001 when I was appointed as a Head. The school became one of the most celebrated in the world, thanks to the efforts of the staff, students and community. In 2007, I left to broaden my reach, working as a speaker and author. The last eleven years have been an amazing mix of pinch yourself moments and challenges. I have had 3 books published with one to follow soon; two went to number one in the book charts. I have worked exploring human potential and change with a diverse range of the world’s biggest organisations, from major corporations to sports organisations and from the entertainment industry to world leaders.

I hope that my diverse range of experiences and my expertise in education, leadership and success provide appropriate insights, support and challenge not only at Board level but to the benefit of our whole team, which in turn benefits our learners and our clients.

What are your interests outside of work?

As well as my family; eating too much, drinking in moderation, sports; particularly football, tennis and cricket… Great music and travel.
