Worcester MP Robin Walker visited the recently opened new headquarters in Barbourne Road of cyber security company Titania where he sat down with 3aaa apprentice Matthew Badger for a chance to learn some new skills.

Level 3 IT Apprentice, Matthew explained the job of being a software engineer Apprentice for an information security company as well as showing him a few of the projects he was currently working on. Matthew explained: “Apprenticeships are now a valid alternative to higher education and working for a company like Titania allows you to develop your skills and knowledge, as well as earning a decent wage.”

Mr. Walker also spoke with Ian Whiting, during which Titania’s chief executive praised government schemes which have enabled the company to expand, invest in research and development and develop trade relationships outside UK borders. Mr Whiting said: “UKTI, apprenticeships, tax credits are all very worthwhile schemes that have helped the company greatly. Joining the Prime Minister on the trip to Washington was a UKTI driven initiative and it makes a difference for small companies such as Titania to be an important part of the UK-US cybersecurity trade relationship.”

Since opening its doors in May of 2014, the 3aaa Bristol Academy has offered over 100 life changing opportunities to young people in the local area.

3aaa celebrated great success throughout National Apprenticeship Week, with the ‘You’re hired’ campaign getting off to a fantastic start.

The East Sussex county-wide apprenticeship campaign ‘You’re hired’ was launched with the aim of bringing 500 young people into apprenticeships. Within the campaign’s first week alone, over 200 employers vowed to take on Apprentices following events which took place in Eastbourne, Lewes and Hastings.

Employers attending the events heard from apprenticeship advocates who celebrated the positive impact apprenticeships have had in driving their business’ successes. Attendees also heard from Apprentices who shared their stories on how an apprenticeship had changed their lives.

As the leading apprenticeship provider in the country, 3aaa was at the forefront of this campaign, with our Brighton Academy offering support and guidance to interested employers and young people.

As part of this campaign, local IT support services company Extech found their perfect candidate in 3aaa Apprentice, Gianni Gennaro. Gianni has since made a huge impact on the business and they are delighted with his progress “We had been in the process of searching for a new apprenticeship company when 3aaa came to us with all the answers we were looking for alongside an outstanding Ofsted report, detailed information about their IT course and even a list of CVs for potential candidates that were ready for interviews.”

“3aaa have an excellent screening process when finding the perfect candidate; not only do they interview the candidate by telephone and face-to-face, they also provide the candidate with training and guidance on how to present the perfect interview. All interviewees that came to Extech knew the background of our business and knew in detail the role and responsibilities of the job they were interviewing for.”

“We have since invited the 3aaa applicant, Gianni to join the Extech team as an Apprentice Customer Service Operator and within a short space of time, he has proved himself to be an important member of the team.”

Derbyshire Cricket Club’s Digital Marketing Apprentice, Neil Bates, will be joining the first team squad on their pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi – a trip of a lifetime made possible by a 3aaa Apprenticeship.

Neil, who has been a member of the Club’s Media and Marketing Department since June 2014, will be providing the media coverage, in association with 3aaa, of Derbyshire’s 10-day tour in the United Arab Emirates.

The First Team squad fly out to Abu Dhabi on Friday 6 March and will compete in both red and white ball action against first-class opposition – including Worcestershire and Middlesex – before returning on Monday 16 March.

Neil, who lives in Mickleover, will be following the squad every step of the way as preparations for the new season enter its final stages.

Neil said: “I am extremely grateful to both the Club and 3aaa for giving me this fantastic opportunity. 3aaa have provided me with the opportunity to work within a field I have always dreamed of and now the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime trip covering a tour abroad.”

Last night, FE News caught up with 3aaa co-owner Pete Marples at the Voice of Apprenticeships conference. He sets out ‘The Marples 10 point manifesto’ for training and skills listed below:

 Point 1: Bring apprenticeship wages to at least £125 per week

Point 2: See a Government review of the role of FE for the next 30 years – it will look very different to the structure we have now

Point 3: Harmonise funding for 19-21 to that of 16-18 to reduce the number of NEETs

Point 4: Implement funding reforms to place providers at the heart of the system using a voucher system

Pont 5: Improve the regulation of trainers and assessors so learners benefit

Point 6: For BIS / SFA to review the role subcontracting should play in the system

Point 7: Promote apprenticeships to SMEs, which make up 80% of all starts

Point 8: Motivate the sector to deliver value added level 3 and 4 apprenticeship starts through increasing the employer discount

Point 9: Abolish funding for 23+ and use it to fund apprenticeship starts

Point 10: Recognise that the Trailblazers are remarkably similar to existing frameworks but are costing two or three times the cost to implement
